The Workshops Core Lab specializes in CAD/CAM engineering, advanced CNC machine tool technology, 3D printing, scientific glass blowing, welding, woodworking, electronics and metrology. We are capable of manufacturing customized experimental tools and equipment, from precision parts, to large fabricated assemblies.

The Workshops Core Lab offers six functional areas

The welding department offers expertise in welding stainless and carbon steels, aluminum and various other materials, by using a variety of equipment; including MIG, TIG, ARC and other welding technologies.

The electronic workshop is primarily focused in the customized design and prototyping of electronic devices. Our highly trained staff of engineers specialize in the fabrication of electronics, such as instrumentation and motion control, data acquisition with system design, image/data analysis, hardware modification/upgrade, circuit design – analog/digital, printed circuit boards and root cause analysis.

Mechanical design engineering area combines an understanding of mechanical design with materials and manufacturing technologies. Our staff of highly qualified personnel have expertise in state-of-the-art CAD software; featuring 3D modeling, additive manufacturing, flow and stress analyses, sheet metal works and motion study.

The glass shop specializes on the design, fabrication and repair of all types of scientific glassware. In order to fully facilitate the precise and exact needs of specific lines of research, the glass shop is equipped to work with borosilicate and quartz glass. Borosilicate glass has a high chemical resistance and excellent thermal capacity, while quartz is superior in purity; transmitting ultraviolet light and withstanding temperatures of 1,200°C.

The metrology department works with dimensional, analytical and electrical quality inspection, including reverse-engineering. It also provides calibration of electronic testing equipment.

The machining department offers metal working, woodworking and plastic fabrication, 3D printing, laser and water jet cutting expertise. The facility combines the use of hand tools to complexity of CNC machine tools.

Prototyping Core Lab is a collaborative design and development workshop offered to you by KAUST Core Labs. Here, you can materialize your ideas and create a prototype for your inventions.
